CBFN Honors Bob Malloy

Bob Malloy had a long history with the Connecticut BASS Federation Nation. He had a great love for fishing and went as often as possible. Although he never won a major tournament or found himself representing Connecticut on a Federation Nation State team, he earned well deserved respect and admiration through his service and dedication to the CBFN and the sport of bass fishing.

From the time spent as the president of the Silver City Bassmasters, the Treasurer and finally the President of the CBFN one thread has remained constant, Bob’s role as a leader. He was a confident, steadfast and thoughtful leader. He made good decisions. Bob was always a gentleman. Matt DeSimone recalls “When Bob asked you to do something, you just did it. He had that way about him.”

I had only met Bob a few times, so as a relative new comer to the world of Bass fishing how would I write about someone I barely knew? Well, that was my charge and what I discovered was the more I asked about Bob, the more I learned just how beloved he was.

When I asked around for stories or anecdotes some replied with a smile and said “There were a lot of funny times, but none I think you should print.” As with most anglers, Bob had many a fishing story to tell.

Bob’s dedication to the organization is still felt and will be for years to come. After Bob lost his courageous fight with cancer the CBFN dedicated it’s scholarship to his memory. Thus, the Robert S. Malloy Scholarship Fund was created.

Bob’s vision as the President of the CBFN was to promote the expansion of the Scholarship fund to include an annual award to a University of Connecticut student majoring in Fisheries Management. This new scholarship partners two of the fundamental missions of BASS, Youth and Conservation, by providing this award to a student pursuing a degree in this area.

CBFN is launching an annual appeal for the Robert S. Malloy Scholarship Fund to honour and remember the great leader that Bob was. For me this was an opportunity to get to know Bob and appreciate his dedicated service to an organization that has welcomed me.

CBFN Needs Your Help

A donation to the Robert S. Malloy Scholarship Fund enables you to take part in our mission by supporting efforts in Environmental Protection, Conservation and Youth. The Connecticut BASS Federation Nation lobbies to protect and conserve Connecticut’s fisheries and natural resources throughout the year. We understand the value young, bright Fisheries Biologists can provide to further the promotion of environmental stewardship.

We are dedicated to providing the youth of Connecticut opportunities to learn about and enjoy the fantastic sport of fishing.

We strive to maintain, if not improve, our fisheries so they may be enjoyed for generations to come.

The CBFN Scholarship Committee meets annually to review all eligible applicants and award a UConn student with the scholarship.

Please consider a donation to the Robert S. Malloy Scholarship Fund. Your participation will be sincerely appreciated.
